Unirope Limited has expanded its sling manufacturing capabilities by launching production of Twin-Path slings at its Edmonton, Alberta, facility. The move comes with the installation of a new Slingmax Rigging Solutions roundsling machine, the most modern model in the company’s fleet.

The Ontario-based company specializes in the manufacture, distribution, testing, certification and inspection of high-performance wire rope and rigging products. It also operates facilities in Quebec and Alberta, serving customers across Canada as well as select clients in the U.S. and Europe.

Unirope already manufactures Twin-Path slings at its other sites. The new capability in Edmonton allows the company to offer fabrication, testing and repairs locally for Western Canada.

“Starting the manufacture of Twin-Path slings at our Edmonton facility [in July 2025] will better serve our Western Canadian partners and significantly reduce lead times," said Justin Brown, president at Unirope.

“Our ongoing investments underscore Unirope’s dedication to continual improvement, innovation and deep partnership with Slingmax — ensuring we always deliver the safest, most advanced lifting solutions. Our three manufacturing sites operate under a unified, nationwide service model — each configured to meet local demand but all adhering to our exacting quality standards and rapid delivery promise.”

The new machine includes a heavy-duty steel frame, hydraulic tension control and a digital touch-screen user interface. It features a setup wizard that is not available on earlier models, helping guide operators through setup, material selection, and quality control.

The equipment installation continues a broader investment effort in Alberta, following recent upgrades to testing systems and operator training specifically for Twin-Path sling fabrication. These developments support Unirope’s long-term strategy to tailor its product offerings to the heavy industry needs of the region.

“These combined investments reinforce our commitment to quality and speed for customers in Western Canada," added Brown. "We first partnered with Slingmax to introduce Twin-Path slings in 1988. Over nearly four decades of collaboration, we’ve worked closely [with Slingmax] to refine the line and cement its reputation as the industry leader in heavy-lift slings.”

The new roundsling machine is also capable of producing Slingmax’s Helix and Onyx synthetic roundslings. Helix features a braided high modulus polyethylene (HMPE) jacket with a low profile that fits tight spaces, while using the same blended K-Spec core yarn found in Twin-Path products. Onyx is a more economical option made with 100% HMPE core fiber and a dual protective cover.

Additionally, Unirope stocks other Slingmax products, including Spider Sleeve, a light-duty HMPE protective sleeve, and Covermax, the proprietary general Twin-Path sling cover made from bulked nylon.
