July 15, 2026 - Mountain Crane Service has appointed Spencer McAllister as chief financial officer and promoted former CFO Josh Chafin to chief operating officer as the company continues to expand its operations across North America.
The Salt Lake City-based company, which ranks as the 16th largest crane company in North America, announced the leadership changes on July 6.
“We are beyond thrilled to have Spencer join our team,” said Paul Belcher, CEO of Mountain Crane Service. “His appointment represents an exciting moment for our business. It’s a sign of growth and maturation. As we take on new and challenging projects and expand our fleet and footprint across the country, Spencer’s financial leadership will help us scale with the discipline that built this company.”
McAllister brings more than 25 years of financial management experience to the company. Most recently, he served as treasurer of BMW Bank of North America, concluding more than two decades with BMW in finance and treasury leadership roles. He is a Certified Public Accountant and Certified Treasury Professional and holds an MBA from the University of Utah and a Bachelor of Science in finance from Brigham Young University.
The company also announced that Chafin has been promoted to chief operating officer after serving as CFO. According to Mountain Crane Service, Chafin played a key role in guiding the company through a successful reorganization and helping position it as an industry leader.
“We are delighted to have Josh take the reins as COO. This new responsibility reflects not just our confidence in him, but also our commitment to promoting internally and rewarding loyalty and success,” Belcher said.
Founded in 2004, Mountain Crane Service has grown from a small family-owned operation into a company employing more than 500 people. The company operates a fleet of more than 200 cranes and maintains an in-house engineering team and field crews serving the wind energy, industrial, general construction and heavy transport markets.
Mountain Crane Service operates branches across seven western states, including Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Utah and Arizona. In 2025, the company became an authorized Tadano distributor following its acquisition of Lennon Crane and Equipment Company.
The company has recently received several industry recognitions, including an ACT Top 20 ranking, SC&RA awards for 10,000 incident-free hours and the 2025 Rigging Job of the Year, as well as the inaugural 2025 North American Game of Cranes title.
Belcher said the company's growth and achievements continue to be rooted in its safety culture.
“All of our achievements are built on the foundation of our number-one priority, which is safety.”
