Mammoet-Haisla J.V. Handles 6,513 Pipe Piles at LNG Canada Project

Besides handling piles, Mammoet-Haisla is also handling modules.

June 22, 2021 – The Mammoet-Haisla Joint Venture has completed pile handing work for the LNG Canada project through JGC-Fluor Joint Venture in Kitimat, British Columbia, Canada.

The project will export Canadian liquefied gas (LNG) and put Canada on the global map of LNG exporting countries.

Mammoet-Haisla J.V. provided offloading services for incoming pipe piles throughout the pandemic, completing the work in March.

Over more than a year, teams offloaded, transported, and placed 6,513 piles. The work required 16 mobilizations and demobilizations, 39,078 chains to secure the piles, and more than 50,000 working hours on site.

In addition to adjusting and adhering to constantly changing coronavirus safety protocols and local restrictions, teams were also faced with adverse weather. Being on the coast of Western Canada throughout winter, workers saw more than 518 days of precipitation.

On the project, Mammoet-Haisla J.V.’s work includes receiving all oversized equipment and modules at the project’s Materials Offloading Facility (MOF), transporting them to the build site, and lifting them onto foundations.

Over the span of three years, Mammoet-Haisla JV will be responsible for the horizontal and vertical movement of more than 350,000 metric tons of equipment, the largest items weighing more than 10,000 metric tons, each.

Mammoet has begun mobilization of Self-Propelled Modular Transporters (SPMT) for the upcoming work. Crews will handle on-site transport from ships to the final installation sites. In total, 88 axle-lines of SPMT’s will be mobilized for this first delivery of cargo.

Crane work is set to begin this fall. When it does, even more SPMT axles will be deployed.

Three large cranes will kick off the heavy lifting. They include two Demag CC 3800s and one Liebherr LR 1600, supported by several smaller cranes.

Mammoet continues to partner with the Haisla First Nation to effectively deliver major LNG projects worldwide, including in the USA, Australia, and Russia.
