Liebherr is advancing construction of its new state-of-the-art logistics facility in Tupelo, Mississippi, marking a significant milestone in the company’s commitment to strengthening its distribution network across the Americas.

Announced in 2024, the $176 million first phase of the project is expected to create 180 new jobs in the United States by 2027. The facility is designed to enhance service capabilities by improving speed, efficiency and reach for Liebherr’s customers throughout the region.

The new logistics center will manage and distribute spare parts and products from six of Liebherr’s twelve North American product segments, earthmoving, tower cranes, concrete technology, mobile and crawler cranes, maritime cranes and components. The site will support warehousing, distribution, pre-assembly, kitting, repackaging and customs and export services for customers across the Americas.

The project is led by Bastian Gauer, logistics director for Liebherr Logistics USA, Co. The facility will eventually span about 12 acres on a 74-acre site in Tupelo’s Hive Business Park, with 36 acres reserved for potential expansion.

“This state-of-the-art facility aims to streamline operations and strengthen the company’s supply chain infrastructure,” said Gauer. “Given the strong support from local government and community organizations to ensure the project’s smooth development and a positive business environment, Tupelo’s Hive Business Park provides an excellent location for Liebherr's new logistics center as it offers logistical advantages that help serve customers across the Americas more efficiently.”

The center’s design incorporates advanced technologies and sustainable elements to support scalability and future growth. Mississippi’s geographic advantages, improving infrastructure and pro-business climate have made it a growing hub for logistics investment.

Construction of the logistics center is being handled by Evans General Contractors, which began work in 2025. The project involves multiple phases, including design, permitting, site preparation, building construction and installation of key systems such as electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and roofing.

The team is moving roughly 250,000 cubic yards of dirt — enough to fill 20,000 dump trucks or 76 Olympic-sized pools — using a fleet of Liebherr machines for earthwork, grading, utility installation and heavy lifting. Liebherr wheel loaders play a key role in these operations, performing essential earthmoving and material handling tasks.

Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves emphasized the importance of the project during its groundbreaking, highlighting the impact on job creation and community growth. “It’s about creating job opportunities for our people. That’s what a great company like Liebherr is going to do here in this community, and that’s something that really gets me excited about this project,” he said.

The facility is expected to generate hundreds of construction and long-term operational jobs while strengthening regional supply chains and attracting additional industrial investment. Liebherr’s U.S. human resources team is collaborating with its global logistics division to support local recruitment and workforce development in the Tupelo area.

Liebherr has selected SSI SCHAEFER to implement a fully automated intralogistics system at the new facility. The solution will include high-bay and shuttle warehouses, conveyor systems and SAP Extended Warehouse Management for efficient and transparent operations.

The high-bay warehouse will provide more than 39,700 pallet positions, while the shuttle system will include over 450 SSI Flexi Shuttles with approximately 170,000 storage locations. Additional manual storage will feature more than 9,500 pallet rack locations and over 1,100 positions for oil and hazardous materials.

The system’s scalability allows for future expansion, with the potential to double throughput capacity as Liebherr continues to grow its operations in the Americas.
