Hiab, a division of Cargotec, has launched a lineup of environmentally friendly electric hybrid crane solutions, designed to operate with minimal emissions and noise. These solutions utilize power from both the truck engine and a separate electric power take-off (ePTO), marking a significant leap toward sustainable operation.
Among the highlights of Hiab's third-generation ePTO portfolio are three new models, two of which feature integrated battery packs for convenience and reduced footprint. One notable addition is the HIAB wspr, an electric-powered option available for mid-range HIAB loader cranes within the HiPro range.
“A HIAB wspr solution, operated by electric power, is better for people and the planet as it is emission-free and future proofs businesses for stricter regulations. By being emission-free and near silent it also provides the flexibility to operate in low- or no-emission zones, or late at night, thereby increasing business opportunities. This is also providing a healthier working environment for operators and the communities they serve,” said Mattias Berglund, director of global product management, special applications and digital products, loader cranes light & medium, Hiab.
The HIAB wspr lineup comprises three distinct models catering to various segments of the market. The Standard model, suitable for a wide range of applications, is seamlessly integrated into the crane base, offering extended operational capabilities. Meanwhile, the light duty model, tailored for drop-off tasks, boasts similar integration benefits. For customers requiring prolonged operation or heavy-duty usage, the heavy-duty model, mounted on the truck chassis, provides optimal performance and endurance.
Space-saving installations ensure that the integrated ePTO setup occupies minimal space on the truck frame, ideal for modern vehicles with limited space availability. When paired with electric trucks, the HIAB wspr system optimally conserves the vehicle's battery, maximizing range and operational uptime. Notably, the hybrid system is said to deliver robust performance and precise control comparable to diesel-powered counterparts, thanks to instant torque reminiscent of electric vehicles. In case of battery depletion, seamless transition to the truck engine ensures task completion without disruption.
