Gatwood Crane Adds 43 Pieces to Chicagoland Fleet

Feb. 12, 2023 - Gatwood Crane Service Inc. (Gatwood), a wholly owned subsidiary of The Bay Crane Companies Inc. (Bay Crane), has expanded its Chicagoland fleet by buying 43 cranes and related pieces of support equipment from CC Acquisition LLC (dba Chellino Crane), a wholly owned subsidiary of ML Crane Group Inc.

Kenneth Bernardo, CEO of Bay Crane, called the investment a significant expansion of the Gatwood fleet in Chicagoland, and said it shows the strong commitment the Bay Crane family of companies has to supporting its customers.

“ML Group was looking to focus their business in the midwestern United States on its strong base of wind and other alternative energy customers and projects,” said Bernardo. “As a result, they had excess fleet that was used primarily to service industrial customers. The industrial customer base is a core component of our Midwestern growth strategy, so the transaction was a good fit for us both.”

Caroline Asimakopoulos, president ML Crane Group, said that her company is committed to serving alternative energy customers throughout the Midwest, and that the transaction allows ML Crane to continue building ML Crane Group into the premier crane service provider in that segment of the market. “The transaction will enable our company to better serve our alternative energy customers, increasing our investment in equipment and people to provide a broader product offering to these customers,” she said.
