First Manitowoc-Kobelco Crane to be Delivered

The new Model 10000 is the first unit to be shipped to the United States under the Kobelco-Manitowoc Cranes joint venture. The crane is being delivered to Shawmut Equipment Co.

June 16, 2004 - Senior staff from Manitowoc Crane Group and Kobelco Machinery Co. gathered in Japan recently to celebrate the launch of new units from the two companies and the shipment of the first crane to the United States . Both companies signed a joint venture agreement at the end of last year under which Kobelco builds cranes under 150 ton capacity for sale in the Americas through the Manitowoc Crane Group sales network.

The first crane to be delivered under the new agreement is a 100-ton Model 10000 which is to be delivered to Shawmut Equipment Company based in Norfolk , Mass.

An additional four other units have been launched ranging in capacity from 50 ton to 85 tons. (See chart below.) All of these models are based on existing cranes in the Kobelco range and will be painted and branded as Manitowocs. The company reports that a number of orders have already been received for these cranes, and additional deliveries are to follow the one made to Shawmut Equipment.

Jerry Maloney named new Product Manager.

The Manitowoc Crane Group, Manitowoc , Wis. , also announces that Jerry Maloney has been appointed as Product Manager for its Kobelco-Americas crawler alliance. He will be based in Chicago , Ill.


Maloney will take charge as the day-to-day liaison in this alliance, which includes the import of small crawler cranes from 55- to 120-tons. Previously, Maloney accumulated more than 20 years experience working for Kobelco America and Kobe Steel in Japan .


Among the applications Maloney anticipates for these small crawler cranes are bridge building and pile driving, while customers will likely include small- to mid-size general contractors.
