EK Machine Adds Shuttlelift SL75 Gantry Crane

EK Machine, a Wisconsin-based manufacturer of backup generators, fuel tanks and enclosures, has expanded its material handling capabilities with the addition of a Shuttlelift SL75 rubber-tired gantry crane. The new equipment supports the company’s continued growth and its transition toward producing fully finished products.

Founded 55 years ago, EK Machine supplies power infrastructure components to hospitals, data centers, schools and businesses nationwide. The company’s expansion has led to the opening of multiple facilities, including Plant 3 in Fall River, Wisconsin, and the recently completed Plant 4 in Madison, Wisconsin.

Before purchasing the Shuttlelift SL75, EK Machine sought a solution to increase flexibility in manufacturing and storage operations. “Construction schedules can be unpredictable, and customers aren’t always ready to receive their completed products,” said Dan Birr, director of operations. “The Shuttlelift gantry crane allows us to safely move finished units into storage, keeping our workflow moving and ensuring we can adapt quickly to changing project timelines.”

The SL75’s maneuverability and remote-control operation have already improved efficiency and safety at EK Machine’s facilities. Operators can position units closer together while maintaining safe clearances, helping to optimize space. The crane’s remote operation also reduces the number of operators required, contributing to improved productivity.

EK Machine credited Shuttlelift’s service team for smooth installation and support. “We were impressed with the coordination of the service department and the speed of the install,” Birr said. “Everything worked right away with no issues.” He added that ongoing service has been reliable, with any rare issues addressed promptly by Shuttlelift’s support staff.
