John Francis Whitehead, 86, passed away peacefully on Feb. 15, 2025, surrounded by his family.
Born on June 26, 1938, John led a life defined by hard work, integrity and dedication to both his family and career.
A graduate of Amherst College in 1961, John earned his B.S. in Engineering from Columbia University in 1964.
His passion for engineering and problem-solving led him to the rigging and lifting industry, beginning his career with U.S. Steel in the 1960s. In the late 1970s, John relocated to San Diego, where he managed American Rigging for more than 25 years, becoming a respected leader in the industry.
John married Joyce Seeley in 1968, and they spent 56 years together. He is survived by his wife Joyce, their two sons, Justin McDevitt and Christopher Seeley and four grandchildren, who brought him immense pride and joy.
John will be remembered for his strong work ethic, unwavering love for his family and the lasting impact he had on those who knew him. His legacy continues through the values he upheld and the lives he touched.
A private family gathering will be held to honor his memory. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of choice in John's name.
